Fry collection begins at Llyngwyn

17 September 2024

Following yesterday’s observation that blue-green algae has returned to Llyngwyn, we have ceased rod and line activity to rescue adult fish. This is on health grounds, protecting anglers from the toxic algae.

We noticed four dead carp in the margins this morning. These were fry and one 6in fish. Sensing that these small fish might be first to be affected by oxygen depletion, we have switched our attentions to catching fry using crayfish traps baited with bread.

A team of four will be baiting and monitoring the traps, with fry caught placed in specially constructed holding nets. We will be emptying these and rehoming the carp every two days.

We’ll keep you posted on how the fry catching goes.
