Transport tank repair – again

23 March 2024

We’re having another go at repairing our old transport tank. The crack in the base, which prevented it from holding water (we used it with a pond liner inside last year), turned out to be more than we thought it was.

The wooden strengthening panel in the base had rotten through, which was why the tank was flexing in transit. Our task is to replace the wood, refit the base, and then apply new fibreglass to the bottom and edges.

Our fifty-year-old transport tank really is on its last legs. The bottom had rotted through.

Removing the base revealed many previous patches-up. The tank’s had a long life!

New wood being added inside. Strips were required to accommodate the tapering of the base, which tapers from 25mm to 12mm deep.

Sealing and glueing the base in place. Here’s hoping it will last another 50 years.

New fibreglass added to the corners.
