Enabled by funds from our annual auction and from a substantial grant from conservation charity Fish in Need (FIN), the Wild Carp Trust has purchased three Linn Aqua transport tanks and aerators. Supplied by Air Water Fish, who also donated an oxygen meter to monitor levels at wild carp water Llyngwyn, the tanks are large enough to transport several hundred carp safely at any time. By having three tanks, Wild Carp Trust trustees Dr Nigel Hudson, Andy Roberts and Peter Whipp will be able to move carp simultaneously to our conservation pools across the country and have the flexibility to move large or small numbers of carp.
Speaking of the purchase, Dr Hudson said: “The Wild Carp Trust has quickly pivoted this year to respond to the imminent threat to the Llyngwyn wild carp. At first we were moving carp in sealed buckets and an fifty-year-old tank that cracked open in transit and had to be sealed with a pond liner and held together with ratchet straps. We couldn’t risk moving carp in it again, so we searched for months for an affordable replacement. Quality second hand transport tanks are rarer than rocking horse poop, so we decided to purchase new tanks. Knowing that the Llyngwyn carp rescue would continue for years, and that there would be the need for subsequent fish movements, owning tanks was the best long-term investment for our charity. We’re hugely grateful for the funds raised by our annual auction and the grant provided by FIN which have enabled us to purchase this critical equipment.”
