The Wild Carp Trust has secured a new conservation pool. Named ‘Rectory Pond’, the water sits within the garden of a village rectory, on the site of an old stew pond adjacent to the village church.
The pool has recently been desilted and restored. It was due for stocking with fish. Its owner approached the Wild Carp Trust for some ‘period authentic’ fish that might have been present in the pool many hundreds of years ago.
Wild Carp Trust chairman, Dr Nigel Hudson, said, “We’re delighted to have secured this new pond. It will be used to raise small carp which will benefit from its proximity to dwellings and people, which will deter predators such as cormorants and herons that might otherwise eat the fish.”
