The Wild Carp Trust has secured its third conservation pool.
Named ‘Edward’s Pool’, the water was once an ornamental pool at a stately home. The home fell into ruin and was demolished in the 1950s, and the surroundings gardens and landscape were neglected.
The pool was lovingly restored by its new owners over the past five years, removing tons of silt and debris, repuddling with clay, repointing the dam, and planing with marginal reeds before filling and allowing the food chain to establish. The owners wanted a strain of fish that might have been in the lake when it was originally built in the 1700s.
The pool will be used to conserve the Llyngwyn strain of carp.
