Scott Winstanley, the Wild Carp Trust’s artist in residence, has created a linocut to commemorate our success saving the Llyngwyn carp. Based on his research into historic artwork and stained-glass windows, it shows a monk holding a wild carp.
The monk’s raised hand looks at first glance like a flame (signifying our passion for wildies) but on closer inspection reveals a gesture called ‘Prithvi Mudra’, a symbol of being grounded and supported. It’s used when someone feels overwhelmed or fatigued, balancing ‘earth’ energy to help them feel strong, settled, stable and self-assured.
The artwork perfectly illustrates what our charity is about and what we need to succeed. It will feature on future merchandise and in our publications.
Thank you, Scott.
